My Read at Home Book 6. As this is an independent series, it can be used in conjunction with any reading programme for 6th Class.
The aim of My Read at Home Book 6 is to develop reading fluency and comprehension skills by encouraging daily independent reading at home. The book cosists of 120 single page units arranged into 30 sections one per week of the school year Each page or day is a stand alone piece with a variety of styles and themes to appeal to all tastes and interests.Genres such as fact, fiction, letter writing, poetry humour, history, geography, nature and legend are included. A key element of promoting literacy i.e daily practice is achieved effectively.
Children are assigned one page of reading for homework each day of the week except Friday.
The Children read the assigned page at home.Confident readers will manage this without help.However parents should be encouraged to help less fluent readers by reading with them(Paired Reading)
Children should be encouraged to preread the Check Up questions on each page to help their recall
The teacher will then Check the reading the following day by orally asking the Check Up questions
Most passages in My Read at Home Book 6 lead easily into class discussion.This is to be encouraged to help develop the oral language skills of the children.
