The Story Line
The story in the first class scheme is about the transformation of the Wicked Wizard from an evil and mean man to a kind and good man. This transformation occurs in Ireland. At the end of the Senior Infant programme, students are told that the Wizard followed Diarmuid and Grainne back from Music Land and now he is in Ireland. The King of Music Land talks to the children in first class and he explains that the longer the Wicked Wizard stays away from his castle, the weaker his evil powers are and the nicer he becomes! They come up with a plan to help this transformation happen. The Wicked Wizard travels around Ireland and the transformation begins.
Because of the nature of the background story, students become very interested in finding out from week to week where the Wizard is and how things are going. Obviously they need to do the tasks in each lesson before the story can develop. This keeps the children motivated. There is an added bonus here, that your students, without realising it, will become very familiar with Ireland and the position of the counties. As in other classes, by the end of the twenty lessons, students will have covered all the music elements that they need to cover and they have great fun doing it.
